Summer Reading Game
The Menlo Park Summer Reading Game challenges you to track your reading, discover great books, enjoy community activities and earn prizes. The Summer Reading Game is a fun and effective way for students (and lifelong learners of all ages) to keep their reading skills sharp during the summer months. The Summer Reading Game is open to all ages; anyone can play and be eligible for prizes donated by Friends of Menlo Park Library. Summer events for the community
The City of Menlo Park produces many free events throughout the year for the community to enjoy. Mark your calendar for family-friendly fun this summer.

Juneteenth Celebration (Observed): The City of Menlo Park will host a Juneteenth celebration (observed) Saturday, June 17. Attendees will enjoy live performances, food and joyous community spirit. Mark your calendar for this festive community celebration commemorating African American freedom and emphasizing education and achievement. Event co-sponsors include Belle Haven Action, Belle Haven Community Development Fund, Belle Haven Empowered and the City of Menlo Park. Join the event Saturday, June 17, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at Karl E Clark Park, 313 Market Pl.
- 4th of July Parade and Celebration: Wear your red, white and blue and join the City of Menlo Park for the 4th of July Parade and Celebration. The parade route follows Santa Cruz Avenue through downtown Menlo Park starting at Maloney Street. Kids are encouraged to decorate their bikes or wagon. The parade concludes at Fremont Park, where you can enjoy fun, family-friendly activities, live music and more.
- Summer Concert Series: Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and bring your family and friends for the Summer Concert Series! The popular music in the park series returns again this year with more great music and weekly performances throughout July and August, with various musical styles: R&B, Classic, Rock, Latin Blues, Southern Soul, Disco and Pop. All concerts start at 6 p.m., and admission is free. Check out the concert lineup.

Hillview Middle Field summer closure for renovations
The Hillview Middle School Field will temporarily close this summer to accommodate work on improvements to the track surrounding the field. The field and track will be closed from June 12–June 30 during the improvement work. Visit our website for information about Menlo Park athletic fields and summer field closures. Thank you for your patience and understanding during the renovation closures.

The Super Parents: Caring for Children with Special Needs
One in five American children has a special health care need: a chronic physical, developmental, behavioral or emotional condition that requires more than routine health care. Our new special exhibition features images from Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Deanne Fitzmaurice and explores what it takes to care for a child with a special need. Online Cooking Lesson: Malaysian Food
Get a taste of Malaysia and some great tips for replicating the flavors in your home kitchen. Guest chef Jai Kandayah will tell us about his home country as he leads us through making a few dishes. Bakstik is a common home-cooked dish in the state of Penang. This is one of the comfort foods that Penangites grow up eating and a favorite dish for many children. He'll also show how to make Char Liap Liap, a tasty veggie accompaniment. It's easy enough for anyone to make at home. Friends of Menlo Park Library is sponsoring this free virtual community event.

Korean Global Language Storytime
Menlo Park’s Global Language Storytime series features a different language each month, exposing children and families to a wealth of languages and cultures during fun, interactive activities for audiences of all language backgrounds. Preschoolers with their grown-ups are invited to join us for a fun-filled bilingual Korean storytime with Yeiyoung Sarah Won from Looking Glass Korean School. The fun happens Thursday, June 15, at 11:30 a.m. at Menlo Park Library, 800 Alma St.

Music at the Library: Gaby Castro Saturday, June 17 1–2 p.m. Belle Haven Branch Library Join us for a concert at the library! For over a decade, Gaby Castro has taken songs written in her bedroom or hotel rooms and brought them to cafes, restaurants, wineries, outdoor markets, stages and everything in between. Her smoky-sweet vocals, confident guitar playing, and detailed and sincere songwriting make this Silicon Valley songstress a performer to watch.
